New hospital: Family-friendly design to put moms at ease

The design team brought many perspectives together to determine the best way to meet the needs of moms, babies and families.

Who do you turn to when you need advice? Mom, of course!
SPMHC relied on the advice of more than a dozen moms from throughout the area when planning the Obstetrics unit for its new hospital. Women who delivered babies at SPMHC and elsewhere took part in focus groups and shared their thoughts and birthing experiences, giving hospital planners a look into what type of experience moms really want.
“We heard in the focus groups that women want to stay in the same room for their entire experience, rather than move to a different room after delivery,” said Beth Martinka, BSN, RN, Obstetrics director. “We developed the unit in a way that allows the patient to stay in the same room whether they have a C-section or vaginal delivery.”...>>more
