Sauk Prairie Hospital earns “Five-Star” rating for joint replacement

Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital & Clinics (SPMHC) has received the 2010 HealthGrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award™.

For the fourth consecutive year, HealthGrades, a national independent quality ratings company, has bestowed its “Five-Star” rating on SPMHC for quality of care and surgical outcomes of joint replacement services.  The “Five-Star” rating puts SPMHC in the top 10% of all hospitals nationwide.

“Our staff does a tremendous job, and it’s nice to have an independent assessment that proves it,” said Dr. Michael Lamson, orthopedic surgeon and medical director of SPMHC’s Joint Replacement Center.  “We’re excited to be the only hospital in the area — including Madison — that has the Five-Star rating for joint replacement.”

HealthGrades analyzes over 41 million Medicare discharges from 5,000 US hospitals.  Risk adjusted mortality and complication rates were calculated to arrive at the star ratings.  The end result for the potential patient is that fact that there is a 79.69% lower chance of experiencing one or more orthopedic in-hospital complications in a Five-Star rated hospital compared to a One-Star rated hospital, and a 61.22% lower chance compared to the US hospital average.
